Apprenticeships and Traineeships
Apprenticeships and traineeships are an excellent way to combine training with work, enabling you to have a job while you complete training towards a nationally recognised qualification. They are available to anyone of working age.
You can do an apprenticeship or traineeship if you are a school-leaver, re-entering the workforce or as an adult or mature-aged person wishing to change careers. You can even begin your apprenticeship or traineeship while you’re still at school.
When you finish your apprenticeship or traineeship you will have a nationally recognised qualification that’s held in high regard in many overseas countries as well.

IOGTA is determined to assist in finding a traineeship that will help you upskill, and complement your job role. As an external territory it can be difficult for our trainees to find Registered Training Organisations to provide the qualification to them, IOGTA assists in a range of ways to ensure that traineeships can be accommodated, such as:
- Organising the external delivery of the qualification;
- Arranging trainer travel to the Indian Ocean Territories, as required;
- Providing assistance in study – study sessions, use of private study rooms/areas, laptop hire, internet use.

Australian apprenticeships and traineeships provide nationally recognised qualifications in over 500 occupations across 50 industries.
An apprenticeship is a pathway to becoming a qualified tradesperson or skilled worker in Australia.
Apprenticeships and traineeships help you earn while you learn. This means you’ll get paid to complete on-the-job training and formal study. It’s a great way to gain a nationally recognised qualification and develop your skills in a real-world environment.

Are you interested in hiring a trainee or apprentice? IOGTA can help! We provide a range of services to meet the needs of the Indian Ocean communities, including finding the right employees and qualifications for your business.
We can assist you with signing up new trainees and apprentices, or if you already have one, we can provide support with government funding and incentives. Our unique approach to employing and placing apprentices and trainees with industry host employers has resulted in training completion rates that are well above the national average.

- Assisting with selecting the right apprenticeship/traineeship for your business
- Facilitating the recruitment process, if required
- Providing information about government incentives and subsidies
- Helping you choose a suitable TAFE or Registered Training Organisation
- Facilitating the contractual requirements of the apprenticeship/traineeship
- Arranging flights and travel and accommodation allowance for block-release training
- Collaborating with training partners (TAFE, Apprenticeship Office, Apprenticeship Support Network Providers) on your behalf
- Providing pastoral care and mentoring to apprentices and trainees
- Advising on employer and apprentice/trainee responsibilities under the Training Contract as required
- Conducting workplace monitoring to ensure apprentices are on track with their training
